چکیده

In 2021, a novel NOAA-Saildrone project deployed five uncrewed surface vehicle Saildrones (SDs) to monitor regions of the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea frequented by tropical cyclones. One SDs, SD-1045, crossed Hurricane Sam (Category 4) on September 30, providing first-ever surface-ocean videos conditions in core major hurricane reporting near-surface winds as high 40 m/s. Here, we present comprehensive analysis interpretation Saildrone ocean wind measurements Sam, using following datasets for direct indirect comparisons: an NDBC buoy path storm, radiometer cyclone (TC) from SMAP AMSR2, retrievals ASCAT scatterometers SAR (RadarSat2), HWRF model winds. The SD show excellent consistency with satellite observations remarkable ability detect strength at location. We use data perform cross-comparisons buoy, which sampled different relative locations within storm. Finally, review collective among these describing uncertainty each dataset discussing potential sources systematic errors, such impact extreme uncertainties methodology.

assessment of the efficiency of s.p.g.c refineries using network dea

data envelopment analysis (dea) is a powerful tool for measuring relative efficiency of organizational units referred to as decision making units (dmus). in most cases dmus have network structures with internal linking activities. traditional dea models, however, consider dmus as black boxes with no regard to their linking activities and therefore do not provide decision makers with the reasons...

Post-hurricane forest damage assessment using satellite remote sensing

This study developed a rapid assessment algorithm for post-hurricane forest damage estimation using moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) measurements. The performance of five commonly used vegetation indices as post-hurricane forest damage indicators was investigated through statistical analysis. The Normalized Difference Infrared Index (NDII) was identified as the optimal dama...

Improved Hurricane Wind Speed Algorithm for the SeaWinds Satellite Scatterometer

Abszracl-Satellite microwave scatterometer wind retrievals, given in the standard product (e.g., QuikSCAT LZB), badly underestimate the peak wind speed in tropical cyclones. One important reason is that the effects of precipitation on the normalized radar cross section sigma-0 are neglected in the processing algorithms. This paper presents results of a first attempt to provide sigma-0 correctio...

Satellite Altimlter Measurements of Surface Wind

In the present work, geophysical model func[ions (GMFs) for altimeter wind speed measurements are described. These GMFs account for an effect of [he actual degree of sea development on the radar cro~ section by utilizing information on the significant wave height. The wind speed mertsurement accuracy achieved (the overall bias 0.1 m/s and the rms error about 1.6 m/s) is higher than the accuracy...

Weight Measurements by Using Simple Optical-Fiber Sensors (RESEARCH NOTE)

The use of different optical-fiber sensors for weighing measurements is Abstract described. By using three different mechanical stressing mechanisms, the operation of the fiber-to-fiber transducer systems are tested and the results are presented. Parameters such as sensitivity, hysteresis, resolution, and dynamic range are measured. A comparison of the results has shown that the sensor system m...
